Under general supervision and using essential Tool Room equipment, designs, builds and repairs jigs, fixtures and special tooling to meet the specifications of production departments.
Materials Used: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals, welding wire, welding gasses, Toolroom supplies, natural and synthetic materials, cutting fluid, structural tubing.
Tools Used: Hand tools, cutting tools, precision measuring tools, layout tools, inspection tools, welder, machine tools, calculator, power hand tools, blueprints.
Responsibilities:
1. Designs and builds jigs, fixtures and other required tools in order to maintain high productivity, quality and safety.
2. Must be able to program and build Fixtures on CNC when needed.
3. Recommends new methods in order to improve safety, quality and productivity.
4. Lead and direct fellow machinists leading by example and providing technical
support in addition to the functions listed below.
5. Notifies Supervisor or Leadperson of any problems with procedures or equipment in order to maintain the highest degree of safety, inventory accuracy and productivity.
6. Plans each work assignment to make best use of time and skills.
7. Utilizes Quality Assurance Department to perform inspections on jigs, fixtures and tools ensuring accuracy in conformance to prints or sketches.
8. Trouble shoots problems with basic tooling, efficiently recognizing the problem and performing essential repairs in addition to the functions listed below.
9. Maintains a high awareness of personal safety at all times.
10. Maintains working area in a neat and orderly manner.
11. Maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees.
12. Performs other, related duties as necessary.
13. Meets requirement for personally owned tools.
Education, Experience
High School graduate or equivalent. Two year technical college certificate in tool and die, machining or equivalent experience.
